The winners of Home Brewed 2005 were announced at an informal gathering following the Wollongong screening of some of our 10-30 Minute Finalists, at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre on 5 November 2005.

This year's competition was the closest yet, with our judges praising all of the finalist films - including our strongest ever Illawarra entries (with Ward 13 receiving nomination for 2005 Academy Award shortlisting), and the smallest of judging margins separating our top 5 films in each category.

Congratulations to all our winners and finalist films!

  • $4,000 cash Best Short Film (0-10 Minutes) - FATHER'S DAY
Directed by Simon Blyth and Produced by Katie Millington & Simon Blyth, this touching story about an absent father meeting his son for the first time in the night hours of father's day, won our judging panels over.
  • $1,000 cash Runner Up (0-10 Minutes) - TACKLE
Directed by Beth Armstrong and Produced by Luke Eve. A clever short also exploring the father/son relationship and the lengths that a son will go to in order to satisfy his father's ambitions.
  • $1,000 cash Best Illawarra Short Film - WARD 13
Directed by Peter Cornwell and Produced by Trephine Productions in association with the AFC, this incredible action/comedy claymation wowed audiences throughout the festival, and our judges couldn't agree more. WARD 13 had stiff competition in the Illawarra category this year, with some extremely strong entries vying for the top local prize.
  • $4,000 cash Best Short Film (10-30 Minutes) - BARELY VISIBLE
Directed by Jody Dwyer and Produced by Tara Watney. A man brings his office affair home only to have a surprise party of people waiting for him in the dimly lit living room. A brilliant dramatic comedy with a surprising twist.
  • $1,000 cash Runner Up (10-30 Minutes) - THE SAVIOUR (Joint Winner)
Directed by Peter Templeman and Produced by Stuart Parkyn. An infatuated door to door religious salesman goes to desperate lengths to revive his affair with one of the only prospects in his street.
  • $1,000 cash Runner Up (10-30 Minutes) - WARD 13 (Joint Winner)
Directed by Peter Cornwell and Produced by Trephine Productions in association with the AFC, a claymation made with the assistance of the entire Cornwell family (Peter's mother Norma was Executive Producer), this film justifies Home Brewed's belief in the strength of talent coming out of the Illawarra region.
  • The Prestigious Granny's Choice Award - NURSERY RHYME
Directed by Michael Demosthenous and Produced by Simone Lahood, this is a fast-paced comedy in which we witness a snowballing collection of phone calls to an unsuspecting florist in "split screen" style, with the entire film told in rhyme. Michael and Simone take home a special "Granny Hamper" of goodies after winning over our most life-experienced judging panel.
